JOURNAL ENTRY #14: A Breath of Fresh Air - Creating an Outdoor Oasis

As the world opens up again, I can’t help but be of two minds. On the one hand, I’m desperate to travel and devour everything I missed out on in the last year. On the other hand, I’m still cautious because we’re still living in unprecedented times. I’m not sure when I’ll live in a time where I don’t have to hear or use that phrase ever again. That being said, the feeling of renewal is undeniable so it’s best to take full advantage of the warmer weather and take a breath of fresh air. That’s why I’ve opted to create an outdoor oasis for Spring into Summer, a creative escape, and a sanctuary to live the best alfresco life!

Featuring La Primavera Outdoor Essentials, here are some tips for using your accessories and styling your sweet escape:

  • Backyard, front yard, stoop, window balcony, rooftop - sanctuary can be found in the unlikeliest of places! After choosing your spot, decide on the style you’re going for. I like to mix up a little vintage, shabby chic, and earthy botanicals using lightweight blankets and throws I’ve got on hand. I cover my existing furniture and add my outdoor pillows for a finishing touch and a pop of color against the earthier neutral botanicals. Outdoor pillows are water-resistant and mildew-proof, making them perfect for your outdoor couches, swings, or hammocks.

  • I love to keep things casual and let Nature do most of the decorating, but if you don’t have that option, adding some plant life to your space will liven it up. Looking to elevate higher, how about adding botanical art to your outdoor living space? Who said gallery walls were only meant for inside?! I like to use command strips to hang my pieces anywhere. When Spring or Summer rain strikes, the weekender bags make a great escape accessory with the large capacity to hold blankets, pillows, framed art, and more!

  • An outdoor oasis is a great way to escape the everyday routine and come back to oneself. As the world opens up, so does the possibility of stretching oneself thin trying to re-connect with those we were isolated from in an attempt to make up for lost time. It’s important to not get so caught up in FOMO (fear of missing out) that we lose our new habits or boundaries formed when forced to sit with ourselves. I like to take my journal out with me to slow down and re-connect. Sometimes I pack my sketchbook and art supplies in my travel pouch, big enough to hold it all. I sit in a corner overgrown with plant life and simply let the world fall away.
